Svilen Simeonov studied chemistry at the Faculty of Chemistry, University of Sofia, Bulgaria where he received in 2004 his MSci in Organic chemistry. He started his research career at the Institute of Organic Chemistry with Centre of Phytochemistry, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (IOCCP-BAS) as an assistant researcher. In 2010 he received a PhD grant from FCT – Fundacao para a Ciencia e a Tecnologia, Portugal and moved to Instituto Superior Tecnico – CQFM, Lisbon and later to Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Lisbon, where in 2014 he received his PhD in Organic Chemistry under the supervision of Prof. Carlos Afonso. In 2015 Svilen was awarded the UNESCO/IUPAC/PhosAgro award for leading young researchers “Green Chemistry for Life”. He currently holds a Junior Researcher position at Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Lisbon and his main research interests are focused on Organic synthesis and incorporation of Green chemistry methodologies in Organic chemistry and biorefinery.
