João Almeida Lopes has a degree and a PhD in Chemical Engineering (IST, University of Lisbon). He specialized in chemometrics and process analytical technology. In 2006, he founded the consulting company Worldmetrics Solutions. In 2009, he created the research group on chemometrics and PAT at the Faculty of Pharmacy of Univ. from Porto. He’s currently assistant professor in pharmaceutical technology at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Lisbon. His activity is focused on advanced pharmaceutical processes manufacturing, including the design, modelling, optimization, high-throughput monitoring and advanced control. He has published over 120 scientific articles and supervised over 60 theses. He heads the Pharmaceutical Engineer and Manufacturing Lab of iMed.ULisboa since 2021. He’s currently President of the Portuguese Society for Pharmaceutical Sciences (SPCF), Member of the Council of the European Federation for Pharmaceutical Sciences (EUFEPS), Member of the Directive Board of the QbD/PAT network of EUFEPS, President of the Analytical Chemistry Division of the Portuguese Chemical Society (SPQ) and Portuguese delegate at the steering committee of the Chemometrics Study Group of EuChemMS.
