Ana Sofia Ressurreição

Principal Investigator
Short bio & current area(s) of interest
After graduating from Chemistry (University of Coimbra), Ressurreição acquired industrial experience at the R&D Department of Bial S.A. (Porto, Portugal) and Genentech (South San Francisco, USA). In 2005 Ressurreição was awarded with a Marie Curie Fellowship for Early Stage Research, allowing her to pursued a co-tutored PhD in Medicinal Chemistry between Italy (Prof. Umberto Piarulli) and France (Prof. Sandrine Ongeri). In 2009, Ressurreição returned to Portugal and worked as a postdoctoral fellow at Prof. Christopher Maycock Lab (ITQB) and in January 2010, she moved to the Faculty of Pharmacy (University of Lisbon) as a postdoctoral fellow at the Medicinal Chemistry Group (iMed.ULisboa). In 2015, she became a Research Assistant (FCT IF) at the same institution and in 2020, she was appointed Assistant Professor. Ressurreição undertakes research at the interface of medicinal chemistry and chemical biology, developing chemical approaches to understand and manipulate living systems, with an emphasis on processes important to disease. Particular importance has been given do the discovery of new chemotypes able to modulate kinases and other key therapeutic targets in infectious diseases and cancer. Another major interest is the development of suitable chemical probes for live-cell imaging and drug-target protein profiling of the compounds developed.
