Ana Bettencourt graduated in Pharmaceutical Sciences at Faculdade de Farmácia Universidade de Lisboa (FFUL) in 1993. After working in the pharma industry as a Quality Control Manager, (1993-1996) she moved to FFUL where she obtained her PhD in Pharmaceutical Chemistry with the thesis entitled “Stability and Biocompatibility Studies of Acrylic Bone Cement used in Orthopaedic Surgery”. In 2019, as an Assistant Professor she got the “Aggregation” qualification in Pharmaceutical Technology. So far, A. Bettencourt has participated in 7 funded scientific projects in the field of biomaterials and medical devices as team member as well as principal investigator. She published 1 patent, more than 50 papers in international peer reviewed (ISI) journals, most in top journals (Q1 in Pharmaceutical Sciences), 3 book chapters, 19 invited talks, more than 60 oral communications and 100 conference proceedings. She has supervised/co-supervised 8 PhD thesis (4 concluded), 25 MSc thesis (20 concluded) and 52 Integrated Master Thesis of Dental Medicine and Pharmaceutical Sciences (49 concluded). From 2014 to 2018, A. Bettencourt was a member of the management committee of the Trans Domain COST Action TD1305 “Improved Protection of Medical Devices Against Infection (IPROMEDAI)”. Since 2014 she has been a scientific national advisor of CT 87/IPQ (“Health Technologies”). Research interests: • Characterization of advanced biomaterials for application in pharmaceutical and biomedical fields. • Nano and macro (3D-printed scaffolds, catheters) platforms for implant-associated infections. • Local-drug-delivery strategies towards periodontal disease. • Medical Device Regulatory Science.
