Short bio & current area(s) of interest
Ainhoa completed her higher education at the University of the Basque Country. She joined the Multiple Sclerosis group of Biodonostia Health Research Institute in 2015. Her PhD project focused on the investigation of biomarkers of human aging and frailty syndrome, as well as on the characterization of immunosenescence and inflammaging. Besides, she co-authored several works describing the implication of extracellular vesicles and non-coding RNAs in multiple sclerosis. Ainhoa joined iMed.ULisboa in 2021, where she works on a project that aims to describe the role of the immune system and microglia in synaptic pruning in multiple sclerosis. She is interested in the impact of synaptic pruning on cognition and potential treatment approaches to ameliorate this invisible symptom of multiple sclerosis disease.
