iMed.ULisboa SEMINAR: Merging metal catalysis with chemical biology
Jose Luis Mascareñas, Full Professor at the University of Santiago de Compostela, Scientific Director of the Center for Research in Biological Chemistry and Mlecular Materials (CiQUS) will present the seminar “Merging metal catalysis with chemical biology” next Wednesday May 11th at 12h.
José Luis Mascareñas completed his PhD at the University of Santiago in 1988, and was a postdoctoral fellow at Stanford University (USA) under the supervision of Prof. Paul Wender (1989-1991). Along recent years he has received several awards, including: Organic Chemistry award of the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry (RSEQ, 2009), Advanced grant of the ERC (2014), Galician of the year “Grupo Correo Gallego” (2014), Gold medal of the University of Santiago (2014), Gold Medal of the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry (2015), award of the Galicia Critic (2018), Research Medal of the Royal Galician Academy of Sciences (2019) and Proof-of-Concept grant of the ERC (2020). In 2017 he was selected as member of the European Academy of sciences (EURASC), and Spanish responsible of EUCHEMS in Organic Chemistry. His current research interests split into two programs: the discovery and development of metal-catalyzed processes, and to a chem-biomed program in cellular catalysis and biosupramolecular chemistry.
