iMed.ULisboa Neuroscience SEMINAR: Behind and behond breast cancer brain metastases

Maria Alexandra Brito, Associate Professor with Tenure at Faculty of Pharmacy, Universidade de Lisboa and Group Leader of Neurovascular Lab at iMed.ULisboa will present the seminar “Behind and behond breast cancer brain metastases” next Friday April 8th at 12h.

Brain metastases are a severe outcome of breast cancer, affecting 15-25% of patients, who have a poor survival. To this fact accounts the lack of understanding of the brain metastatic process that obstacles the development of targeted therapies, the restricted permeability of the blood-brain barrier that precludes the brain entrance of ~98% of small drugs, and the lack of precocious biomarkers that prevents an early detection of the disease.

In this talk, it will be presented recent findings on key events occurring during brain metastases development, and their modulation. Moreover, newly discovered biomarkers in liquid biopsies, and their suitability to monitor the therapeutic modulation will be discussed. Overall, this talk will provide a link between brain and periphery and back.
