Rita Serrano is a Professor of the Department of Pharmacy, Pharmacology and Health Technologies, at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universidade de Lisboa (FFUL), teaching the curricular units of Pharmacognosy, Medicinal Plants and Phytotherapy, and Pharmaceutical Botany (since 1986 to 1999). Within the scope of her teaching activity, she has participated in some postgraduate courses, as well as guided several master’s and doctoral students. Since 2007 she is a Member of the Jury of the Tests of Access for the FFUL 23+ Years (M23). She develops research activities in Ethnobotany, Ethnopharmacology, Pharmacognosy and Herbal Medicines’ Control Methods (quality, safety and efficacy) of traditional plants used in Portugal, Africa (Angola, Cape Verde, Mozambique, Guinea-Bissau) and Asia (Bangladesh), to contribute to the validation of their medicinal usage by the local populations and to promote their sustainable development.
