Responsible by Pharmacognosy and Medicinal Plants and Phytotherapy subjects at the Integrated Master’s Course of Pharmaceutical Sciences. Within the scope of his teaching activity, she has organized and participated in several postgraduate courses at national level and in African countries of Portuguese official language, as well as guided several master’s and doctoral students at national and international level. As researcher, develops research activities in Pharmacognosy, Ehnopharmacology and Ethnopharmacy, working on projects in quality, safety and efficacy of traditional herbal preparations used in Asia (Iran, China, Bangladesh), Africa (Angola, Cape Verde, Mozambique, Guinea-Bissau) and/or Portugal, to contribute to the validation of the concrete use of it by the local populations and to promote the sustainable development of them. To this end, she has actively established international and national collaborations and the different projects are developed in partnership with local entities. In parallel, she is also involved in the discovery of new compounds of natural origin with biological activity obtained from plant species. She is a member of the Scientific Council of FFUL; chairman of the CT212 Technical Committee of the Portuguese Quality Institute, devoted to standardization within the framework of the themes covered by the World Health Organization Strategy for Traditional and Complementary Medicine; representative of Portugal in the ISO/TC249 Standards; and International Expert of the Advisory Committee of Experts of the Scientific and Industrial Park of traditional Chinese medicine for Cooperation between Guangdong and Macau.
