As Professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Coimbra (FFUC), Maria Eugénia Pina (MEP) was responsible for conducting several courses of Biomedical Pharmacy and Bioanalytic Sciences, integrated MSc in Pharmaceutical Sciences, and MSc in Medicine Technologies. She was a member of the Scientific Council, FFUC Representative on the UC Quality Council, Coordinator of the FFUC Drug Development and Technologies Laboratory, Coordinator of the MSc in Medicine Technologies and Technical Responsible of UCQFarma (FFUC), Quality Control Laboratory). MEP supervised several MSc and PhD students, participated in various scientific research projects, and has several publications in peer-reviewed international scientific journals. Presently, as a retired Professor, MEP is an integrated member of the CIEPQPF (Chemical Process Engineering and Forest Products Research Center), and PPB (Particles, Polymers and Biomaterials Technology) Groups at UC. She continues to be an active member in several research projects: MATIS, contest CENTRO-45-2015-01 – IC & DT Integrated Programs (2017-ongoing) and Scientific Project CENTRO-08-5864-FSE-000031 integrated in PP18, “Valorization of plant material for Pharmaceutical / Cosmetics ” (since 2021). Considering that natural products have several advantages over synthetic compounds, MEP’s current area of interest focuses on the investigation and application of raw materials of natural origin for the production of cosmetic products to treat or prevent skin changes, including aging. The use of some invasive plant species in cosmetics also constitutes a research objective. Additionally, the application of polymeric materials in drug delivery systems, represents a possible area for further investigation.
