Maria Luísa Corvo has been working on the development of lipidic drug carrier systems for the delivery anti-inflammatory or cancer drugs (small molecular weight to biopharmaceutics including enzymes). Systems developed and optimized were liposomes (attractive delivery systems) for the treatment and/or visualization of inflammatory diseases (ex. Rheumatoid Arthritis, Ischaemia/Reperfusion Injury, Inflammatory bowel diseases, diabetes) and cancer (ex: leukaemia, colorectal or lung carcinoma). Corvo has also been studying mechanisms of action of developed formulation and their correlation with biomarkers, tissue disposition and pharmacokinetics.
