João Pais has started its academic path with a bachelor’s major in Chemistry and minor in Physics, but since the master’s degree in Chemistry, Health and Nutrition his research interests and carrier has been focused on the development of antibacterial drugs. This has materialized in a PhD with work performed in the areas of the organic synthesis as well as microbiology, while developing compounds against gram-positive bacteria (ex: Bacillus anthracis). Currently occupying a post-doctoral fellow position, under the supervision of Professor Luis Constantino, his interests lie with the study of mycobacterial infection, focused on the development of antitubercular compounds.
