PhD Student
Short bio & current area(s) of interest
Joana S Rodrigues holds a Biomedical Engineering degree from IST and is currently a PhD student at FFUL, under the supervision of prof. Joana Miranda and prof. Jorge Ruas (Karolinska Institutet), being awarded with scholarships by ULisboa (BD2017) and FCT (SFRH/BD/144130/2019). Her main research interest is the development of hepatic in vitro models for predictive toxicology and disease modeling using hepatocyte-like cells (HLCs) derived from human stem cells. Through the collaboration with INESC-MN, Joana is designing a fit-for-purpose microfluidic device for the establishment of a hepatic insulin resistance in vitro model. Currently, Joana is a team member of a FCT-funded project to evaluate the role of mesenchymal stem cell-derived exosomes in liver regeneration (PTDC/MED-TOX/29183/2017), a member of the Portuguese Society of Pharmacology and the Portuguese Society for Stem Cells and Cell Therapies and author of 6 peer-reviewed manuscripts in international journals, 1 patent, 12 published abstracts, 16 oral communications and 26 posters.
