Short bio & current area(s) of interest
Joana Marto (JM) obtained her BSc/MSc from the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Lisbon (FFUL) in 2010 and started her professional activity in a Portuguese pharmaceutical company. To further develop her career, she started PhD research work in 2012 and obtained a doctoral degree in Pharmacy, area of Pharmaceutics, from the University of Lisbon, in March 2016. Since the beginning of her career, JM’s main research interests have been the development of medicines and cosmetics for topical application, including cutaneous and ophthalmic administration, and the development of new drug delivery systems (micro, nano and 3D carriers) using a Quality by Design (QbD) approach. Further, she always focused on transposing fundamental research to applied investigation (market), actively pursuing the transfer of Pharmaceutical Technology knowledge to the market and the society, developing medicines which were made available to hospitals and pharmaceutical industry. This is strongly emphasized by the fact that she coordinates and is an active participant in several projects mainly financed by the industry. All the work that JM has and is developing, has been significantly enriched by several national and international collaborations, which contributed to her wide experience in Pharmaceutics, especially in the areas of regulation, development and characterization of medication and cosmetics for topical application.
