Catarina Santos is an adjunct Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Polytechnic Institute of Setubal (ESTSetúbal-IPS), where she teaches BSc and MSc courses and supervises a postdoc, and PhD and MSc students. She is also an affiliated researcher at the FCT-funded center CQE, Instituto Superior Tecnico, University of Lisbon (https://cqe.tecnico.ulisboa.pt/members/398). Her main areas of interest include the development of nanomaterials for biomedical applications, fabrication of new nanostructured surfaces and creation of 3D-printing structures for medical applications. Currently, she is the Principal Investigator of the funded scientific project 3DGelComp – Manufacture of Biofunctionalized 3D Hydrogel Composites, in collaboration with Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Lisbon and PhD Trials. She participated in an International collaborative Cost Action MP1301, NEWGEN-New Generation Biomimetic and Customized Implants for Bone Engineering and was also of the European Project EU-G5RD-CT-2000-00282 TISSUE REACTOR – Development of a Bioreactor-Based Connective Tissue Production Line. At the national level, she collaborated with FFUL in several projects (e.g., Smart3D-TDDS – Ion Jelly-Sensing Smart 3D Patch for Transdermal Drug Delivery; 02/SAICT/2017 – AntiBiofilm Features of Glycolipid-Functionalized Silicone Catheters Towards Healthcare-Associated Infections Prevention; 3D-PsoPatch – 3D Printing-Based Technology Using Mesenchymal Stem Cells for Personalized Psoriasis Therapy). CS’s outputs include 46 full papers, 2 book chapters, 55 poster communications and 2 awards and/or honors. She has 108 collaborators who co-authored her scientific papers.
