Short bio & current area(s) of interest
Ana M. Martins got her BSc and her PhD in Biochemistry (Enzymology) from the Faculty of Sciences, University of Lisbon. Shortly after, she started her postdoctoral research in Biochemical Networks/Systems Biology at the Virginia Bioinformatics Institute, Virginia Tech, where she also worked as a Research Associate (2002-2009). AMM worked as an Assistant Professor of Biotechnology at the University of Sharjah for 2 years (2011-2013), after which she started work as a Research Scientist in the area of Drug Delivery Systems for Cancer Treatment at the American University of Sharjah (2013-2016). In 2016 she joined the lab of Prof. Judith Klinman at UC Berkeley, where she was a Visiting Scholar for 2 years, working in Protein and Peptide-derived Cofactors. She joined iMed as a Research Scientist in 2019 and has been working in the area of topical drug delivery/dosage forms, particularly in the development of conventional and advanced delivery systems for serotonergic drugs for the treatment of chronic inflammatory skin diseases.
