Alexandra Paulo is a member of the academic staff of Faculty of Pharmacy of University of Lisbon, since 1991. She teaches organic, medicinal and natural products chemistry subjects and she has successfully supervised more than 15 PhD and MSc students. She has served as referee for international funding agencies and is member of Frontiers in Chemistry and Scientific Reports editorial boards. Paulo’s research has always been focused on the discovery of novel chemical tools and drug lead small molecules to translate into innovative therapies. Currently, her research aims to develop selective anticancer and anti-infectious drugs by designing and synthesizing small molecules with the capacity to modulate transcription and/or translation of genes involved in regulation of human cancer cells proliferation, or in survival of human pathogens (e.g., viruses, malaria parasite and M. tuberculosis).
