Short bio & current area(s) of interest
Afonso Miguel Cavaco holds a Ph.D. in Pharmacy Practice and Policy from UCL (UK) and a post-doc from Johns Hopkins University (USA). He is currently an associated professor and R&D developer in social pharmacy at the University of Lisbon, Faculty of Pharmacy. He is actively involved in interdisciplinary research and contributing to the education of pre and postgrad pharmacists and other healthcare professionals. His key competencies include investigation activities in research and education projects. Science efforts include mainly book chapters and more than 85 articles published in journals with impact factor, as well as presentations in scientific events, including plenary sessions by invitation, workshops leading, and oral communications. Education efforts comprise innovative pedagogical approaches, such as pharmacy practice simulation (e.g. MyDispense). Afonso’s international profile includes roles in European scientific associations (e.g. EACH) and the organization of international scientific events (e.g. ISPW). Afonso’s current main research interests encompass the attitudinal aspects of medication use and communication in healthcare, especially patient consultation and medicines information.
