iMed.ULisboa Research Project on COVID-19 awarded by the Portuguese Association of Hospital Pharmacists
The research project COVerskIn-D: the device for the prevention of skin lesions caused by PPE was distinguished by the Portuguese Association of Hospital Pharmacists (APFH) with the APFH 2020 Award for Best Poster. The award was announced during the closing session of the “APFH Immersive Virtual Congress 30 Years of Creating Value” on the 30th November 2020.
The project funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology under the project UIDB/04138/2020, UIDP/04138/2020 and Research4Covid19 n. 150, proposes the development of a semi-solid topical formulation for skin protection and injury prevention of health professionals caused by the prolonged use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) against COVID-19. COVerskin-D seems to be a practicable, safe and low-cost approach to be implemented in national hospitals.
This work involved a multidisciplinary team in pharmaceutical technolgy and chemistry areas, including researchers from iMed.ULisboa, Joana Marto, Helena Margarida Ribeiro, Andreia Rosatella, António Almeida, and Carlos Afonso; specialists from the Serviço de Gestão Técnico-Farmacêutica do Centro Hospitalar Lisboa Norte and from E.P.E.
