Research Interests

Our group investigates the genetic diversity of Mycobacterium tuberculosis strains and evaluates the proportion of recently transmitted disease between patients. We focus on identifying factors responsible for dissemination of particular strains and its capacity for adapting and increase pathogenicity and virulence. Evaluation of the distribution of various mutations related to drug resistance, in predominant clinical strains as permitted the selection of a limited number of target mutations, allowing the development of a rapid method of identification and detection of such a strains.
