Filipa Siopa is a Post-Doc researcher under the supervision of Professor Carlos Afonso. The main topic of the research focus in the synthesis of bicyclic beta-lactams by photochemical transformation of pyridinium salts and in the valorization of bicyclic-aziridines, which includes ring-opening in water under mild conditions with bionucleophiles and bioconjugation reactions. The application of photochemical transformations under continuous-flow is also a topic of her research. Additionally she is involved in the synthesis of choline-based ionic liquids and in the studied of their biological activity. These compounds have been tested in several targets including malaria disease, human colon adenocarcinoma cell line (HT-29) and ChoK. The antimicrobial activity of these ILs was evaluated, as well as, their inhibition activity against acetylcholinesterase. F. Siopa also synthesized photochromic compounds for the production ‘Two-Photon Activated Photochromic Polymers’ for optical data storage.
